Book review 2-14 TITANIC

Do you know the TITANIC is. I think everyone know about it. TITANIC has departure at Southampton in April 1912, and has sunken to the bottom of the sea.
This tragedy was made a screen many time, and especially, 1997 version is widely known. So it is hardly necessary to explain the detail about it.

I will introduce about unknown true story about TITANIC.
Do you know the woman Molly Brown? She is known that another name "unsinkable Molly Brown". She was a first-class passenger and a widow. She also appears on the movie TITANIC 1997 version. Cathy Bates acted her role. In the movie, After TITANIC sunk, she tries to help other passengers, however she was shout her down by ship crew. But, actually, she helped some other drowing passengers with helping other crews.

There are many unknown true stories about the tragedy TITANIC. Now, we have developed the high-level technology about diving, and dive into the deep sea investigate about TITANIC. (167 words)

Book review 2-13 Forty Years of Pop

What is POP? This book says POP is popular music. And who is the first pop artist? Do you know? It is Elvis Presley. His song Heart Break Hotel was sold in eight million. It was the first modern pop music and the history of pop was started from here.

Elvis was born in tupelo, Mississippi in 1935. When he was a child, he goes to the church with his father and listens the R&B. he debuts in 1956, and he became famous. Girls like him, and boys want to be like him.
In 60’s, some people calls it is the Golden time for POP. For young people, pop became very important music in their life, and became a big business. In many artists, one artist from California became very popular. It is Beach Boys having the surfing sound. This artist is said that they are the most successful group in 60’s. And in addition this, there are more successful group. For example, they are Supremes, Bob Dylan, and Otis Redding.
And, two artists from UK became very famous. It is Beatles, and Rolling Stones. Until then, the popular music artists are all from U.S. However, these groups grab young people’s heart. Although the Beatles already have split up, The Rolling Stone is active even now.

In the 70’s many people become thinking that pop is boring. In stead of this, two genre of music were came into the spotlight. It is progressive rock, and heavy metal. Pink Floyed and Led Zeppelin got many spotlights for them. And in London, a new strong music was made. This is Punk music, the music of the seventies. Sex pistols debuted in 1975, and this band became popular immediately among young people. Their music was so loud and quite violent.

In 80’s, new pop music was born. The biggest pop superstar is, as you know, Michael Jackson. He debuted to music scene as a Jackson Five when he was a child. He was talented, and had much wonderful dance skill. And the other eighties superstar is Madonna. She has good voice and dance skill like Michael Jackson. And her music is loud, pop, fast, and exciting like disco music.

In 90’s, new genre of music became popular. This is rap music. Now, rap is sung in HIP-HOP music. The rap was born among Black people who are living in the environment of violent dangerous and poor in 70’s. The biggest different between Rap music and other kind of music is the way of singing. They speak their lyrics so fast over music, and they rhyme rhythmically. This new way of singing became so popular among Black people and white people.
In 21 century, many talented artists debuts every year. They always create new music style and make us so excited. (473 words)

Book review12 Audrey Hepburn

I think many people know Audrey Hepburn. Some people say “she is one of the greatest and most beautiful actresses all over the world”, other says “she is a fairy in the screen”. This is the story about the famous actress and one ordinary lady.

Audrey was born in Brussels, Bergin, in 1929. When she was a child, she met music, and dancing, so she began to do Ballet. When she was 15 years old, she was already talented Ballet dancer. But she was said from her Ballet teacher. “You can’t be a Ballet dancer, because, you are too tall.”

After the World WarⅡ, her family moved to London with no money. Her mother worked so hard to earn money and Audrey also earned money by acting some small part in TV program and musical. One day, she met a small part in a big London musical fatefully. Everybody liked this Musical and her with the pretty face and wide smile. When she was 20 years, her face appeared in many magazines. And, when she was staying in French to shooting a scene, the female author Colette found her. She was looking for her musical heroine. She saw Audrey at the first sight, and she shouted “I found my musical heroine!!” Audrey was given a roll of famous musical heroine “Gigi”.

And she passed the audition in Roman holiday, and acted a cute and beautiful princess. She debuted in Hollywood, and her name became so famous in a single bound. Every movie director around her wanted her to star in some movies. But she thought that she wanted to star not in the Movie, but in the Musical. As a result, she also made a success in musical. After this movie, she stared in some famous movies, like “Sabrina”, “Break fast in Tiffany”, and “My Fair Lady”. These movies made many people love her.

When she was becoming older, she thought that she wanted to do something more important with her life. She remembered her early years, at the end of the war, she was poor and hungry. So she decided to work to help poor and hungry children in United Nations. Working in United Nation, she gave many loves and hopes for poor and hungry children. They loved her so much and many people all over the world were impressed with her energetic activity.

On January 20 1993, Audrey Hepburn died. She was 64 years old. Her good friend Elizabeth Taylor said “God has a beautiful new angel!”
However, although actually she is very famous movie star, she had expressions like ordinary ladies. She was poor when she was a child, and she got divorced twice that she didn’t want to. And she gave a birth her son and brought him up like ordinary mother. She tasted the sadness of love like ordinary lady, and tasted to be an ordinary mother.

Book review 2-11 American life

This book is written about a life for “an average American”.
The America is a very big country. And the biggest state is Alaska. But population is only 500,000. California has more people than any other state, more than 31,000,000. New York City is very small, but it is the biggest city not only in U.S., but all over the world.
And New York has very tall building; it is the Empire state building, 381 meters tall. The Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco in California is 1,280 meters long.
The U.S.A is also known as an immigrant country. The first people in America are of course Native American, and since 17th century, many people have come to America after Mayflower ship had arrived. In 18th century, America had independenced from England, and new country was born. George Washington became a first president. Today, we can see the first president and some executive people when they look at dollars.
About the American life, most state has many suburbs, and these are very far from shopping mall. So people usually drive a big car to get to there, and buy foods or some products for a week. Mall is very important to many Americans. Young people meet their friends there, and in bad weather, some people go for a work in the mall.
There are many different kinds of food in the U.S. many people make foods from their old countries. And, “First Food” began in America. A Typical American food is “hot dog”. But 50% American think they are fat. The one of reasons is food. American Foods are cheap, and a lot of oil.
Most houses in the U.S. are wood. Most houses have three or more bedrooms and two bathrooms. An average houses costs $150,000.
Americans love their cars. There are many songs, books, and movies about the cars in U.S! There are 200,000,000 cars on the roads! In most states, Americans can drive alone when they became sixteen. Life without the car is very difficult for Americans. Schools, stores, and work are usually a long way from house. Some towns and cities do not have public transportation systems although it is the big. Most Americans drive everywhere.
Of curse this country also has problems. The gap between rich and poor people is very big. And in the U.S., the gun is easy to get, so the number of crimes is getting higher. The problem of “colors” is very serious. Many colored people are living in there, however the racism is still existed.
There are four most famous sports in the U.S. these are Basket Ball, American Foot Ball, Base Ball, and Hockey are the biggest!!
The U.S. is also famous for the center of Entertainment. Some movies, musicals, and music festivals are there. these are always fascinate and smites us. (473 words)

Book Review 2-10 Pollution

There are many things that called pollution all over the world. These problems are sometime taken up a subject for discussion in whole world.

Coal pollutes the air when we use it too much. Many people, trees, and animals died because of polluted air. And oil is also a one of the dangerous a cause of air pollution. And the oil producers started putting lead in gases many years ago because lead made it burn better. But, lead is poison. We breathe it through food or water and it stays inside solely but surely poisoning us.

Acid rain is a great problem in many countries in the north. Ordinary, rain is a little acid, too. The cause is to use coals and oils too much. The wind carries the gases with into the sky. There they come together with water in the air and make acid rain, acid bug, and acid snow. Acid rain is bad for buildings, too. The acid eats into the stone.

In developing country, they have to walk so long way to get the water. All over world, billions of people use rivers for washing, for drinking to carry away their waste. And also farmers use chemicals on fruits and vegetables. And some of these chemicals are very poisonous.

In addition to this, there is also some pollution all over the world. We don’t feel so much that the environmental is bad condition. Because, I think our country is rich and have favorable environment. At the same time, many people afflicted with pollution in developing country. Not only developing country, but also living things like animals or fish are afflicted with it. The burden of the pollution always downs on the socially disadvantaged.

Our prefecture, Kumamoto once had had very terrible environmental problem called “Minimata mercury disease”. In the 1950, people died not fully understand the dangers of toxic waste. A factory dumped their waste into the sea. This waste contained very poisonous metal called mercury. This poison was into the food chain. Many people ate fish polluted by mercury and accumulate it into their bodies. Thousands died from mercury poisoning and thousands people never walked and never talked again.

We have to invent any things or live with thinking about the environment. If we don’t do it, we will choke our neck by ourselves. ( 393 words)

Book review 2-9 Flight

Birds move their wings up and down and they fly. People can move their arms up and down but they don’t fly. Birds have big wings and a small body, but people have small arms and a big body. Why can birds fly? This is related to dynamic lift. Birds can fly this lift.
People had thought they want to fly since long time ago. In old story says Icarus and Daedalus tried to fly themselves. Even now, this story is famous because people want to fly themselves, I think.
Many people have tried to fly. In 1020, Oliver of Malmesbury made some wings for his arms. But he didn’t fly like a bird. In 15th, Leonardo da Vinci watched birds in the air, and found the mechanism of it. But the plane that was made by him never flew. In 1670, Flancesco de Lana made the lift with four balloons, however, this lift, too, never lift.
In 18th, Balloons and Parachutes were invented. The brothers Joseph and Jacques Montgolfier made a balloon with smoke in it. This balloon was the first one in the air. But there was nobody in it. The first balloon that held people in it were in 1783. But of course, this invention had some accidents.
In 19th, glider was made. Glider is an aero plane without engine. The wings of glider didn’t move up and down. This had lift, but it didn’t have thrust.
The first aero plane had appeared by Wright brothers in early 20th. They made two hundred different wings and tail planes, and watched them move in the wind. Brothers made a 68 kg aero plane engine from a car engine. And this plane had flown. These guys had developed the flight skill. Now, Wright Brothers were said the first people that succeed to flying in air. As an opportunity, many type of plane was invented. Later, helicopters, zeppelin, and other type of plane had appeared.
Unfortunately, aero plane was often used as a weapon of war. I think many Japanese know this name “Enola Gay”. This is famous for the plane that bombed the nuclear bomb in Hiroshima. Many aero planes were invented and made extensively for war. But many aero planes were destroyed in the same time.
Now, we can travel overseas easily and quickly thanks for aero plane. If we have no planes, we have to travel by ship or train taking many days instead of planes. Plane is exactly important and convenient, but we must not to make a mistake to use and deal with it. If we did it, the tragedy will be happened. (442 words)

Book review 2-8 Kings and Queens of Britain.

In Britain, the most important person is king and queen. Today, Queen ElizabethⅡ is the most important person. Every year, she opens parliament and she is head of the Church of England. But she doesn’t work parliament or church nether. The king and queen of England have many histories.

In AD 43, roman emperor Claudius came to Britain to take the country from the British kings and queens. In England, The young queen called Boudicca tried to stop the invasion of Romans. They fight so much. After all, she lost and died, however she became the first famous British Queen.

The year 1066 is the famous for English people. In that year, three people came to England to fight, because they want to be a king. After the fight, Harold Godwinsson became a king at that time. But later that day, William and his soldiers killed Harold and he became a king WilliamⅠ. William was a strong king, and people remember him because him because his children and grand children were king of England for 2 hundred years.

In 1491, King Henry was born and married with his first wife Catherine in 1509. He wanted have a son, however he couldn’t. So he remarried Ann Boleyn. Because she couldn’t give a birth a son, she was killed by Henry. After all he married six women. He could have only one son. He died in 1547, and because of him, the King and Queen of England is always the Head if the Church of England, too. And Ann’s daughter, Elizabeth was one of the most famous women in England.

The young Elizabeth was so poor and had a very difficult time. Her sister Mary was a queen, and Elizabeth was in prison. Many people wanted to kill her because she was Ann’s child. After Mary died in 1558, she became a Queen of England for 45 years. She didn’t have her husband and maintained her beliefs that she is single. However it is known that she had many steadies at that time. And more, the age of under Elizabeth rule, it is said that “The Golden Age”. It was a strong, happy for England. Elizabeth made some explorers sailed to America, and opened the world widely. Elizabeth was ready for being assassinated by Scottish Queen Mary, but Mary was killed by her.
And time past away and England became bigger country. And the industrial revolution, the England was the center of the world.

Today, the Queen is ElizabethⅡ. She ascended the Queen in 1952, then, she was 25 years old. She neither works hard at parliament nor Church. But she talks with prime minister and churchmen about very important things. She helps them and gives some advises. The King and Queen is indispensable person and irreplaceable. Book review 2-7 Washington D.C

Everyone of all over the world might have ever heard the name “Washington D.C” at least once.
This is the capital city of the United States of America. Twenty million visitors come here every year from all countries of the world. But many visitors are Americans. They want to see the home of their government, and they also want to see their president.

In 1789, the united states were still small country. George Washington became a president and he named the land the District of Colombia. The main buildings are the Capitol, and the White House.
The capitol is the government building work started before the beginning of the civil war. Today, we can visit many of the rooms and walk around the beautiful rotunda that is painted pictures and statues of important people in American history. And, 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue is the most famous address in America. Do you know where it is? It’s the home of the President of the United States. This house started in 1792. The president’s office is in the west of the building. It’s called the Oval Office.
There are many monuments and memorials in addition to these buildings. It is The Washington Monument, the Lincoln Memorial, and the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, and so on. The Washington Memorial is nearly 170 meters high and it’s a monument to America’s first president, George Washington. The Lincoln memorial is thirty-six columns round this wonderful white memorial. In the center stands a statue of Abraham Lincoln, nearly six meters high. Between the memorial building and the Washington Monument is a reflecting pool. When you visit there in the sunset time, memorial is reflected in the pool. It is so beautiful. The Vietnam Veterans, you can see two long big walls. Over 59000 American soldiers didn’t come back from the Vietnam War. Their names are on these walls.

Book Review 2-6 London

London is the capital of England. It is known that one of the world wide city like N.Y, Tokyo, and Paris. The name “London” comes from the Romans. The Romans came to England in AD43. They built houses and other buildings and made town next to the River Thames. The town got bigger and bigger. Very important buildings were built, and you can see these historic remains today. About 50000 people are living in it. About AD400, the Romans left from there and Nobody lived there for hundreds years. Danish soldiers destroyed these buildings five hundred later. In 1066, William the Conqueror came to England from France to be a king. He began to build the Tower of London. In 1600, there were 200000 people in there. But, in 1665, 100000 people died from an illness called the Pest. In 1666, a big fire has been happened and many people died.

If you visit London, you can get to some places easily, quickly, and early! The subway called “TUBE” run all day and most of the night. And you can see the famous red bus. It is two building bus and it is now one of the most famous local transportation in the world. London taxies are called “black cabs”. In N.Y, taxies are “yellow cabs”. Drivers are usually friendly and helpful. You can take a boat when you trip along the river. Between April and autumn, you can take a boat trip to Hampton coat. Sightseeing spots in London are Buckingham palace, Tower of London, St. Paul cathedral and so on. Buckingham palace is known that Queen Elizabeth is living. At 11:30, the soldiers at palace change the guard. It takes about 1 hour, and it is so popular event that hundreds of visitors come to watch.

And many famous shops are in London. Most famous department store is Hallods, and others are oxford street charring cross.
You can enjoy to going out! There are many theaters and music. Many masterpieces are performed everyday. You can listen to wonderful music and singing at the royal opera house. Foot ball is very famous in not only London, but also in Europe. Of course, England has strong team. There are Arsenal, Chelsea are there. It is sure that you have heard these names just for once. London has many great museums and galleries.

Book Review 2-5 New York

What do you imagine with the word “New York”?The megalopolis? Center of the business? The place of dispatch of brand new fashion and music? And, the center of all over the world?
More than twenty million people visit NY every year. When visitors think about NY they usually think about Manhattan- island 21.5 kilometers long and 3.7 kilometers wide. The city has 10000 kilometers of street and seven million or more people live there.
In the beginning of NY, Manhattan island was the home of Algonquin Indians. In 1609, Dutch explorer Henry Hudson came up to there. Today, the river in NY is called Hudson River. In 1626, Dutch man came to Manhattan, and he paid money for Indians to buy the island. He built some houses and called little town “New Amsterdam”.
But in 1664, the British took the town from the Dutch and they changed its name to New York. In 1790, millions or more people came to America from all over the world though already about 33000 people were living.
There are lots of things to see in Ney York. There are much traffic equipments like subway, bus, ferry, and cabs. These are very convenient and make easy for visitors to get to the different parts of the city.
At it different parts, are Chinatown, little Italy, green witch village, central park, and Coney island. And more interesting, I found attractive phrase that “if you want to look at the building, in NY, look up!” the city is full of skyscraper! These are very wonderful and very modern. For example, Empire state building, the United Nations Building, in Manhattan, and Statue of Liberty in Liberty island. Unfortunately, The World trade center was broke down by terrorist in 2001.
And NY has many entertainments. For example, we can enjoy theater, ballet, musical, band every night on the week. On week end night, we can watch an exciting sports game like base ball, basket ball.
NY has many attractive points and these always fascinate us. I want to visit there and enjoy the life style of megalopolis someday!

Book review 2-4 The Oscar

Who is the person of consequence in movie industry? Do you know? One of the most important men in Hollywood is just thirty-four centimeters tall! His name is Oscar. Everybody, especially movie industry parties loves him.
Oscar is the popular name for the most famous award in the movie business. Many movie actor or actress, directors would love to get this award.
But why is the Oscar so famous and important? For many movie-makers, an Oscar is a sign that they are making great art. After they have gotten an Oscar, actors and actresses are usually offered lots of work. An Oscar can make a movie and them a big success. It can make an actor a star immediately. They can earn more for each movie, too!

The most important Oscar section is there. Best Picture, Best Actor (Actress), Best supporting Actor (Actress), and Best Director. How to choose the winner is that the members of the Academy vote for them.

An Academy awarding ceremony is very very special day. They dress up gorgeously, and put some brilliant jewelries. Because their fashion and behavior are in the spotlight of all over the world. And very popular entertainer will be chosen as a host of award. For example, Billy Crystal, and Whoopi Goldberg. And then, the presenter read out the names of the nominated actors, movies, or directors. Then, he or she opens the envelope and tells everybody the winner. A set phrase is 「and the Oscar goes to…」peoples who are nominated will might be very nervous when they hear this phrase.

Surely the Oscar is very honorable, but some people don’t think it is very important. Woody Allen, was once nominated, however he said “the Oscar didn’t mean anything to me.”
Anyway, many movies that have won the Oscar are very good and these are must be a masterpiece. For example, Ben-Hur (1960), TITANIC (1997), Dance with wolves(1991).

And, I like watching this awarding ceremony. Actors and actresses are very beautiful and sophisticated. And above all, I like the speech of winner that after had won the Oscar. Their speech is very impressive, deeply, and emotional. Sometime they cry, and give a message that full of appreciate for their manager, family, fun, and god. These scenes always move me.
So I am looking forward to this yearly ceremony. (391 words)

Brad Pitt is an American actor and film producer. He became famous during the mid-1990s after starring in some major Hollywood films. He received a Golden Globe award and an Academy Award nomination for his role in the 1995 film “ Twelve monkeys”.
Now, he is cited as one of the most attractive men and regarded as a Hollywood A-lister. I think there are no person who don’t know about Brad Pitt.
He was born in Shawnee, Oklahoma. His parents were high school counselor and track company owner. And he has one brother and one sister. As soon as his birth, they moved in Springfield, Missouri, and brad grew up there. When he was high school student, he was involved in sports, debating, student government, and acting. And, he began to be interested in acting.
Brad studied about acting and got a very small role in the 1980s TV program. He learned more about acting from every role.
In early 1990s, he has played some famous movies. For example, true romance, legends of the fall, and interview with vampire. These famous films pushed Brad from” star” to “super star”. After these films, everybody knew his name. In 1995, the magazine PEOPLE gave him an award, ”He was the Sexiest Man in the world”.
He made two more super star movies. It is Apollo13 and SEVEN. He became more famous after these Films.

In his private life, he got married with Jennifer Aniston in 2000, and got divorced with her in 2005.
And now, he has a domestic partner, Angelina Jolie. They have 3 step children, and 3 own children.
Angelina is eager to philanthropy and charities. So, brad began to interest to it. And in winter of 2006, brad gathered a group of housing professionals together in New Orleans to begin a project. It is called Make it Right. In this project, they finance and construct 150 new houses. This activity gathered many attentions, and 13 architectural films are involved in the project, and are donating their services. Brad and philanthropist donated for 5 million dollars.

Book review 2-2 Seasons and Celebrations

There are many celebrations in Japan. For instead, new year, coming of age day, constitution day, and children’s day.
Of course, U.S, and Canada also has many celebrations. Some of these are well known for Japanese. For instead, there are St. Valentine’s Day, Hallowe’en, and Christmas. And, there are also very important events for western country although it is unfamiliar to Japanese. These are Easter, the forth of July, and Thanks giving day and so on.

Easter is a Christian holiday on a Sunday in March or April to celebrate Jesus Christ’s return to life after his death. There is a legend in Christians that Jesus was executed by Romans in Jerusalem on Friday, and two days later he resurrected. Eggs are an important part of Easter because it means spring and new life. One Easter tradition is “egg-rolling”. People decorate eggs with different colors.
On Easter Sunday, people give chocolate Easter eggs as presents. These eggs have bees started in Europe in the 19th century and came to Britain in the 1870s. Many people go to church on Easter day. There are lots of flowers in the churches and people sing special Easter songs.

And next, do you know the Independence Day? It is not a movie! This is very very important day for American.
U.S was once a colony of England and people in the colonies had to pay taxes to England. So, they gradually became to think that American colonies want to be free from England and want their government to be in America.
And on 4 July 1776, Thomas Jefferson and his friends wrote the Declaration of independence in Philadelphia. The British and Americans fought each other until 1781 in the American war of Independence. Americans fought for independence, equality, and freedom.
In 1783, both sides agreed with the independence of America, and so the United States of America was born.
On Independence Day, there are special church events at this time, but most of the celebrations are out side because it is summer! Many families barbecue, eat, and play games in their gardens or in a park. In many towns, there are grand parades through the streets with loud music and bright colors.
Independence Day usually ends with lots of fireworks. It is like one big party.

And finally, it is thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is a holiday in the U.S. and Canada when families have a large meal together to celebrate and be thankful for food, health, families etc… It is celebrated in November in U.S. and in October in Canada. This event has been started hundreds of years ago.
In September 1620, English group called the Pilgrim Fathers has arrived in North America. They went away from England because of religion, and they wanted land for their families.
First, they thought that they are first person who got to America, but it was not. The first people were Indian. Sometimes the Pilgrims fought with the Indians but they also learned many things from them. The Indians showed them how to live in new land, and haw to grow and cook new kinds of fruit and vegetables.
The first winter was difficult for Pilgrims to get over. Many of them died because it was very cold and they had few foods. In the spring they started to grow food, helped by some friendly Indians, and the autumn, they celebrated for their first harvest.
The Pilgrims wanted to give thanks, not only for the harvest, but also for their new home, new life, and new friends. So, they invited Indians for party to say thanks for teaching and helping to grow some foods.
Most American and Canadian families still have a Thanksgiving Day dinner with their family. They have turkey and autumn vegetables, and pumpkin pie.

And, about St. Valentine’s Day, this event is very popular in Japan, too. However, in western country, man and woman send a gift or greeting card each other. It is not a chocolate. And also, man presents a red rose bouquet for woman.
In Japan, we, especially woman send a chocolate to man. It is not a tradition. One chocolate company used this event to boost their company sales.

This book was very interesting because some western popular event that is unfamiliar to Japanese was written in simple words. And it has many good pictures. I think that to know about the culture of foreign country is to know their history.

Do you know the name GUCCI? I think the people all over the world may know about this name even if I don’t say for details. GUCCI is now one of the most famous fashion brands in the world. We already know about the thing what GUCCI is. But we don’t quite know about particularity and history of this. This book was written about these things in simple words.

The GUCCI was established by Guccio Gucci who is from in Italy. Guccio was born in 1881, in Florence. He was smart, and he learned English, French, and German. When he was 19, he went to London, England, and worked in the famous Savoy Hotel. At there, he saw the clothes and jewelry of rich people everyday. And visitors to the hotel had a lot of luggage with them, too. He watched them so much, and he was given inspirations and ideas for his future from them.
He went back to Florence in 1901. He got married with Aida. In 1921, they bought the little store, and stated to sell the leather products. They had five sons and one daughter. Everybody helped at the store. Parents made and sold luggage, and children took packages to customers on their bikes.
Then one day, Guccio had a wonderful idea. He hit that he use the designs of leather products for horses and handbags. it is that we already know, GG logo. The famous GG logo came from a stirrup. Many rich people liked this design, so, Guccio’s company became bigger. In Italy, Not only rich people, but also common people loved and hankered for GUCCI products because they were beautiful and expensive. Afterward, GUCCI was grown up bigger.

In the 1970s, GUCCI products became very famous for overseas of Italy. The GG logo was in fashion. Rich people wore GUCCI clothes and accessories. In the 1980s, GUCCI products were more famous than before. Maybe too famous! Many people wore Gucci, so the clothes were not new and different. The GUCCI logo suddenly went out of fashion. But today, GUCCI is in fashion again.

The 1980s and 1990s were difficult years for the Gucci family and their company. Many quarrels have been caused by among the family member because of the way of management in this company.
Paolo, Gucci’s grand son has left this company and started a new company. Other son has left their home because he was tired of this quarrel. Aldo, Gucci’s son was arrested because of tax evasion, and he was in prison for one year. This affair has shocked not only the family but also the society.
Maurizio was the last of the family at Gucci, but in 1993 he left the company. In 1995, he was shot by somebody and died. In Italy, the trial of Maurizio’s killers was in the very big attention.
The criminal was surprisingly her ex wife Patrizia. She did not want Maurizio to marry again. She wanted more and more money from him. She paid the assassin and asked to kill Maurizio.

After that, Gucci family left the company. New people and new idea came in there. Tom ford is now the boss of new GUCCI. He is from in U.S. the fashion magazines and news papers call him “the most important man in fashion” “the top man in world fashion”. His original ideas of fashion always fascinated people who are keen on fashion. And also, Mr. Ford plans the company’s advertisement, too. His advertisements are about young, rich people and their exciting lives. He thinks that GUCCI always has to be new and exciting. This is very important in fashion.

Today, GUCCI is European company. This company is getting bigger and bigger and it is becoming more and more famous. (634 words)

I read about food and drink in Britain.
In this book, we will look at some of the different things the British eat and drink today.
In my image, famous food and drink in Britain is potato, bean, and tea. My image was not wrong. In Britain, potato is one of the most important or staple foods in British diet.
Potato first came from South America. In Peru, farmers grew them from the 13th century. And then, the Spanish brought them back to Europe in 16th century. In the 17th century, potatoes were introduced to the British and later, they became an important food. Because, when many people died because of disease and crops failed, the potato could be harvested then. Today, the British grows million tones of potatoes every year. And most people eat over a hundred kilograms a year. They can also make potato soup, potato bred, potato salad or use up in a dish. Potato is more popular during the W.W.Ⅱ because although it was difficult to find some foods, potatoes could be bought. Today, many shops and supermarket sells a variety of potatoes.
And, I think the word “England” always reminds us “tea”. Although coffee has become very popular in Britain in recently years, tea is still the national drink. Over 25 million cups of tea are sold every day, and many million cups of tea sold everyday, and millions are made at home in Britain. The history of tea in Britain was started in 17th century. Tea was brought from china. At first it was very expensive. So, few people could buy it. In 18th century, it was drunk so much in Britain. By the late 18th century, Britain became a centre of the world tea business. Since 19th century, tea has been brought to Britain from India, Africa, and Sri Lanka like China. Today, there are over 1500 different kinds of tea in Britain. For example, Assam, Darjeeling, Oolong, Earl Grey and English Breakfast. Each one has a different smell and taste. ( 350 words )

Do you know about the California? Now, California is one of the most famous states all over the world. Over million people visit this state every year. This state is also famous American film business, computers, and wine. It is wonderful place to stay or live there. But only 150 years ago, it was just a land of desert and mountains. What happened during 150 years?
California became a free state in 1850. 2 years before this year, very important event happened in this state. On January 24, 1848, Mr. Marshall who was working on the land where was later to become the city of Sacramento found something bright and yellow in a river. He discovered small pieces of gold! After this event, many news paper companies told the story of Marshall’s discovery. The news has been spread across the world, and soon, a lot of men from all over the world started to come to this state. They wanted to find gold, and be rich. They were often called “Forty-niners” because most of them arrived in 1849. This was started of the Gold Rush.
Soon, this state became big and had many big cities. By 1852, there were more than 100,000 prospectors in California. And then, in the 1860, people discovered something new in the ground. They called it black gold. Because it soon made them very rich. Do you know what it is? It is oil.
There are the summaries of the history of CA. and today, there are many beautiful and lively cities in CA. For example, San Francisco, Monterey, Los Angeles, San Diego, Long Beach, Anaheim.
I have ever been to CA for a month as a home stay. And I have been to many sightseeing spot in CA, like Hollywood, Disney land, universal studio. CA has hot and dry climate through a year, and temperature goes up to over 30℃ in every day time, and fall under 10℃ in night time because of desert climate. It has almost sunny days through a year.
CA has many attractive places to sightseeing or travel. But, if you leave from megalopolis and go to the nature place, you will find great nature! It is very magnificent, and emotional. If you are planning to go to CA, I recommend that you should go both place city and nature. It must be fun! (395words)

Book review 1-11 great crimes

I read the book what was written about some crimes in U.S.
Especially, I was interested in 2 big crimes. One is the assassination of President Kennedy. And another is kidnapping affair of Patricia Hearst. Many Japanese know about assassination of President Kennedy. But about the kidnapping affair of Patricia Hearst, is not famous than Kennedy affair. So, I will write and introduce about this affair, the kidnapping of Patricia Hearst.
In Feb 1974, she carried off by the SLA (Symbioses Liberation Army). Because she was a grand daughter of William Randolph Hearst who is the president of The San Francisco Examiner that is very big News Paper Company. The SLA sent many demands. But, in august, her parents were given the cassette tape that was recorded her declaration that she became a member of SLA. And after this, her figure that she is committing a robbery with members gave all over the U.S a terrible shock. Afterward, she was active about some affair with members.
In 1975, she was arrested. But, in the trial, she asserted that she was innocent and the Defense also asserted she was done a brain wash by SLA, and SLA has all responsibility for this affair. Panel gave her judgment on 35 years sentence. But public figures like Ronald Reagan, and John Wayne submitted a petition for release of her. And sentence of a prison has been changed to 7 years.
After released, she has appeared on sociality and some movies as a supporting actress.
As a result of psychiatric test, her activity with SLA was caused by Stockholm syndrome.I was so surprised because the SLA was an enemy for her. But because of Stockholm syndrome, her mind has been changed oppositely. It is very interesting. (298words)

Book review 1-10 Martin Luther King

I read the book what was written about Martin Luther King.
He was born on 15th Jan 1929 in Atlanta Georgia. His family was not poor and they had enough money to live comfortably. He was loved by his parents, and had good neighbors. But, Kings were black people. Blacks and whites lived in different parts world at that time. For example, restaurants, schools, bathrooms and buses were separated from white people. Because, black people have been treated as a slave until 19 century. And though the slavery was abolished in 1865 by Lincoln, many white people were thinking about blacks and whites are different, and they don’t admit the blacks are human. When King was fifteen, he went to college in Atlanta, and he wanted to be a teacher like his teachers. But later, he become to think about he want to be a minister. He went to college for ministers in Pennsylvania, in the north, and met a many white students whose are friendly to King. He realized that Blacks and Whites don’t have to hate each other.
In his last year in college, King went to hearing a talk about the Gandhi. Gandhi had fought against the British in India. But they had not fought with guns. They used non-violent ways of fighting. This talk made King so excited and he became to fight segregation without armies in the south. In the Southside, there were still many segregation and racism.
Later, things were beginning to change. In the south, new laws against segregation were passed. But white people in the south decided to fight against these laws. And also, in this time, King has decided fight segregation in the south. He and his followers refused to ride in the buses after Rosa Parks was arrested. This is Bus boycott in 1955, and in 1960, they found a new way of protesting –sit in-
And then 1963, a thousand children joined a protest march through Birmingham, and they gathered at Washington D.C. and asked for equal rights for Black Americans.
More than 200,000 marched on Washington. Marin Luther King stood in front of the statue of Abraham Lincoln and made the most famous speech of his life.
「I have a dream」
He said. His dream was of an America where blacks and whites would be equal and live together in peace. This speech was shown on television all over the world. People cried when they heard Martin’s words. Things must change now, they thought. The country was full of hope in the future of America. This speech made him so famous. But yet there were also people who hated this minister. Less than 5 years after his speech in Washington, he was shot dead.
When people heard of his death, there was so much sadness. But there was also anger. Black people rioted. They burned buildings and fought the police. Many black people were killed in these riots.
15 years after his death, the American government made his birthday a national holiday. Today, he is remembered as one of the greatest Americans of the 20th century.( 528words)

There are many strange and mysteries that we can’t analyze by science or theory.
For example, pyramid, Stonehenge, Nasca, and so on. This book is written about some mysteries and strange all over the world. My most impressive part is unusual abilities and ghost of the castle. Have you ever watched the movie「Rain man」? In this movie, hero’s brother can calculate as fast as calculator. In addition to this, he can do some amazing calculation. And, the boy can draw of a complex building completely after watched only few minutes. And in Europe, there are some people who have telepathy. And, I also feel that the story of the ghosts from the past is interesting for me. For example, the tower of London, where so many famous people were killed, is said to have 30 ghosts! Visitors have seen Queen Anne Boleyn, for example, the second wife of King Henry Ⅷ. The ghost of his fifth wife, Catherine Howard, runs through the rooms of Hampton Court instead! Theatres also are often known for their ghosts, like the Man in Grey at the theatre Royal in London’s Drury Lane.wow! It’s so horrible. Some buildings in Europe have many histories, so that it is not really strange that there are some ghosts in buildings, I think.
Ever year, we find the answers to more and more mysteries. But, there are still a lot of mysteries that have no explanation yet. One day, will we learn to use telepathy? Would you often go to the theater? Do you like watching movie? Would you prefer watch movie at home or theater? I think millions of people all over the world still go to the theater although they have TV and DVD player at their house. This book is written about how the movies all begin, and how the movie had grown up.
The first moving pictures were simple “shadow shows” or “shadow plays” and slide glasses. These became very popular in Europe in the 18th century. But 1820, photography was invented and were used instead of the slide glasses. These pictures did not move. In 1890, Edison and Dickson had management to take moving pictures in 1893. The world’s first film studio was built by Edison in New Jersey. In 1911, the first Hollywood studio was built by the Nestor Company. The American film workers came to California because the weather was good, and Californian workers were cheap to employ. From 1913, many movie companies have gathered into Hollywood. For example, UNIVERSAL, 20th FOX, COLUMBIA… Hollywood was a good place to “get into the movies”.
The first movies were silent. And many actors and actresses were a round as a movie star. Charlie Chaplin-one of them was very busy making audiences laugh. The dawn of the golden age of the cinema began with the talkies. From 1920 to 1940, many masterpieces were produced, and they are still kept in our mind, for example, Stage Coach(1939), Anna Christie(1930), and Gone with the wind(1936).
In 1932, the color film was invented and the movie became more popular amusement for people. People have built the movie theater that is called “Picture Palace” and enjoyed it. The Academy Award was born in 1929. So, to flourish of the silver screens has been became lustrous honor.
Now, movie industry is a one of the biggest industry all over the world. And many movie skills are improving more and more. For example, Animation, Computer graphics, Special effect, and Make-up.
We are enjoying watch movies at home. But, TV can’t catch sound, graphic, and power of the movie. Many people are thinking that only place to watch a films a theater. (374words)
